How Shiny Aligners Work
Here’s a basic breakdown of the process:
- Digital Planning: Your orthodontist takes 3D scans or impressions of your teeth. These are used to create a digital treatment plan that maps out each stage of tooth movement.
- Custom Fabrication: Based on the plan, a series of aligners are created. Each aligner is slightly different, representing a step forward in the movement of your teeth.
- Wearing Aligners: You wear each set of aligners for about 1–2 weeks, at least 20–22 hours per day. They are only removed for eating, drinking (anything besides water), brushing, and flossing.
- Gradual Progression: With each new set, your teeth shift a little more until they reach their final alignment.
- Monitoring and Adjustments: Regular check-ins ensure the treatment is progressing as planned. Sometimes, attachments (small tooth-colored bumps) or other adjuncts may be added to help with specific movements.
• 6. Retention: After completing the treatment, a retainer is worn to maintain your new smile and prevent the teeth from shifting back.
